Marana is a growing community of more than 38,000 just northwest of Tucson and to the west of Oro Valley. It encompasses a large area along the I-10 corridor making it a great place for both residents and businesses to locate. Marana has a small-town charm, an agricultural heritage, and plenty of room for expansion, which lends to its easy-going, casual lifestyle.
As a family-friendly environment, Marana has an abundance of activities for people of all ages. The town offers guided hikes through the Tortolita Mountains, miles of paved hiking and biking trails, and two swimming pools. The town launched its new splash pad in August 2015 and offers numerous opportunities for organized sports. Marana’s senior center is a place where retirees can enjoy time pursuing the creative arts or simply visiting with others. Several dance and martial arts studios call Marana home as do a variety of gyms. Marana hosts three premier events each year including its July 4 Star-Spangled Spectacular, the annual Cotton Festival in October and the Holiday Festival and Christmas Tree Lighting to bring residents together while the annual El Tour De Tucson also runs through the town.
There are several excellent gated and golf communities in Marana located on either side of the I-10 corridor, the largest of which is the master-planned community of Dove Mountain. Dove Mountain encompasses 6,200 acres and includes the new Ritz-Carlton Resort. Other gated communities in Marana include Continental Reserve, The Highlands at Dove Mountain, and the luxurious Sky Ranch.
Marana has also become home to four golf courses. The three newest courses are located in the master-planned community of Dove Mountain. One of them, The Gallery, is currently ranked in the top 100 residential golf courses in the U.S. by Golfweek magazine. The Gallery is private and offers two, 18-hole courses along with a sports club and a clubhouse featuring The Gallery Grille. The Ritz-Carlton Golf Club hosted the Accenture Match Play Golf Tournament for the last six years.
The business community in Marana is growing with promise due to its business-friendly attitude and wealth of land dedicated to business and industrial growth. Investors are seeing Marana’s potential and a new outlet mall with more than 90 vendors opened in October 2015 near the Twin Peaks and I-10 interchange. Businesses and individuals also have access to the growing Marana Regional Airport. The general aviation airport, purchased in 1999 by the town, is located about five miles west of the I-10 off Avra Valley Road.
Marana is encompassed by five zip codes (see the Marana Zip Code Map) and has several post office locations in the town limits. The Marana Unified School District serves the educational needs of the community and includes several elementary schools, the newest of which is set to open in August 2016 in Gladden Farms. There are two middle schools and two high schools to serve secondary students. The area also offers several private schools and charter schools from which families may choose.
